Rookwood School is a Charitable Trust and as such has a Governing Body. The role of the Governors is to have overall control of the school and they are responsible for making sure the school is fulfilling its main functions. Whilst on day-to-day matters the Governors delegate the responsibility for running the school to the Headmaster they are, nevertheless, the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run.
The Governors hold half-termly meetings during which the Headmaster presents a report on the operation of the school. At these meetings, the school budget is also discussed. At some meetings, the Governors receive reports from the three Heads of School as well as discussion papers about possible future initiatives.
Our Governors are appointed through interview and ratification by the Governing Body. Their duties (as a Governing Body) are broadly as follows:
- Ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
- Comply with the charity’s governing document and the law
- Act in the charity’s best interests
- Manage the charity’s resources responsibly
- Act with reasonable care and skill
- Ensure the charity is accountable
Certain Governors have specific responsibility, these include SEND, boarding, safeguarding, finance, health and safety and early years. The Chair of Governors can be contacted via email email@example.com or by writing to Mrs C Hardiman, Rookwood School, Weyhill Road, Andover, Hampshire, SP10 3AL.
